LEADERS IN ON-SITE THERMAL METAL SPRAYING

Cormac specialises in Thermal Metal Spraying, Thermal Spray Training, Thermal Spray equipment sales and maintenance, and Thermal Spray project Supervision and Consultancy.

We service all of Australia and Asia Pacific.

What We Do

For over 28 years, Cormac’s Operations Manager, Bob Cordewener, has been actively involved in the application, development, and training for all aspects of Thermal Metal Spraying throughout Australasia, and with a presence on the Standards committee developing the new AS TMS Standards.

Cormac provides all Thermal Metal Spray services for the prevention of corrosion to steel and steel in concrete (CP) utilising the application of metals such as Zinc, Aluminium, Zinc-Aluminum alloys, Nickel, Stainless Steels, Hastalloys, Monel & Bronze.

Cormac has developed unique mobile plant & equipment for all on-site Thermal Metal Spray, Protective Coatings, and Cathodic Protection applications and installations.

Our Technology

Cormac boasts having more than 10 high deposition thermal metal spray systems as well as flame spray systems, a unique ‘semi-automated Internal pipe blast & thermal spray system’, rod & bar blaster, numerous abrasive blasting systems and two fully self-contained 4×4 mobile blast/metal spray trucks certified to MDG15 (mining spec) that can mobilise throughout Australia.

Cormac also provides Thermal Metal Spray Training and operator certification to ISO 14918 throughout Asia Pacific as well as Project Supervision and consultancy through our Consultancy Services.

Our thermal metal spray applications are used for corrosion prevention, cathodic protection, non- skid and wear resistance, with projects ranging from everyday structural steel fabrications to dams, ships, bridges, mining, power generation plants, water industry, defense, oil refineries, onshore and offshore oil & gas facilities.

Thermal metal spraying is widely recognised as one of the most superior coatings available for providing corrosion resistance and protection together with extremely long service life.

Technical Process

How does thermal metal spray work?

Twin wire thermal arc spraying involves the melting of two metallic wires via electric arc and then air propelling the molten or ‘plasticised’ metal particles toward an abrasive blasted substrate where the particles ‘instantly’ solidify to produce a dense metallic coating with excellent adhesion values.

Although the particles are in a molten state, as they strike the substrate material and solidify, instantly cooling upon impact and therefore the process is considered a cold application that can be touched immediately without any fear of burning the skin.

Generally, metallic coatings provide a service life relevant to their thickness, typically meaning the thicker the coating the longer the service life. Metallic TMS coatings can provide a service life of 5 to 50 years plus, in the harshest of environments due to the controllable coating thickness and wide selection of coating materials available to service the needs of the specific application. Other advantages of metallic coatings include ‘no drying time’, no ongoing maintenance, and no VOCs.

Our Thermal Metal Spray process is also used as an alternative to hot dip galvanizing. Metal spray ‘galvanizing’ does not induce great heat or distortion and can be selectively applied, used for repairs to existing hot dip galvanising, applied to any thickness for greater localised protection, or masked to protect vital components, and any size item can be coated/galvanised.
